Should I purchase Basic or Intermediate first aid for my team?
If you answer YES to ANY of the following, you will likely require Intermediate First Aid to meet AB OHS regulations.
Do you work with infants or young children?
Do you have 10+ workers (staff, contractors, volunteers) on a shift at any time?
Does AB OHS categorize your job as high hazard?
Do you have any distant or isolated workers who are more than 20-40 minutes away from a health care facility?
Do you want your team to be trained in applying splints, handling environmental emergencies such as hypo- and hyperthermia, prevention and care for poisoning and animal bites, proper techniques to move an injured person, and triage?
What course type should I purchase for my team?
Blended: Most popular option. In addition to being a lower cost, it's ideal for individuals who prefer learning at their own pace. The online portion must be completed within 42 days before class.
Recertification: Ideal for individuals whose certificate is coming up for renewal. Students must send in a picture of their valid certificate before class. Expired certificates must take the Full or Blended course. AB OHS prohibits renewing an expired certificate.
Full Course: Ideal for those who are taking first aid for the first time, prefer a slower pace, or do not like online learning.
As Blended and Recertification in class training focus on skills, students are expected to be familiar with the material beforehand.
Refer to AB OHS Schedule 2 to determine workplace first aid requirements.
Which training provider should I use?
We assess your needs and recommend a training provider to you. For a comparison, click here.
If you have a contract with a specific training partner, then we will teach according to your contract.
What's the difference between Child Care First Aid Level B and First Aid Level C?
Level C and Level B are both compliant with Early Learning and Child Care Regulation (Alta Reg 143/2008) which requires 1 out of 2 staff members be certified in first aid.
Level C focuses on infants, children, and adults. Level B focuses on infants and children only.
Level C meets AB Occupational Health & Safety requirements, Level B does not. This means a daycare with 2-9 staff would need at least 1 employee certified in Level C on every shift.
Level C has a blended option where half the course is completed online, Level B does not. So employers who pay staff an hourly wage for training would pay 8hrs for Level C certification or 16hrs for Level B certification.
Given the clear advantages, we train all Child Care Providers in Standard First Aid Level C.
Is there a minimum age or physical ability for participants?
No. There is no minimum or maximum age for participants.
Yes. We recommend only registering participants who can complete 2 minutes of quality CPR on a manikin, and who can focus throughout class. While we will try to accommodate persons with disabilities, CPR is a required skill for certification by all first aid training providers.
Can I reschedule or cancel?
Yes. Clients can reschedule or cancel with advanced notice. We will make every attempt to provide a full refund but may be unable to due to costs we incur. For courses on a weekend or holiday, we require 2 weeks notice, for courses on a weekday, we require 2 days notice.
If https://511.alberta.ca/#route reports dangerous road conditions, we'll reschedule for the safety of our instructors and your team.
What happens if a student shows up late or doesn't show up at all?
Late: If a student is late they may not meet the provincial requirements for certification. Opportunities to make up the missed material may be provided upon the discretion and availability of the instructor.
No Show: If we are not notified, a refund may still be provided minus costs incurred.
Do you teach outside of the area shown on the map?
Yes. Depending on your location, we may require a greater number of participants to cover the travel cost and extra time for our instructor.
Are you hiring?
We pay $30/hr to Red Cross subcontractors who supply their own equipment. If that is you, we'd love to get to know you to see if we'd be a fit for each other. FYI: We do not hire any instructors who are boring.
