What do I need to host a training at my location?

  • Required:

    • schedule a minimum of 7 days in advance (exceptions may apply),

    • enough open space for participants to practice (15+ sq ft per student),

    • the space must be tidy and a comfortable temperature (~18-24°C),

    • the space must be quiet enough for the participants to hear the instructor(s)

    • seating for every participant and instructor(s),

    • other accommodations as needed, e.g., tables for participants who cannot sit or kneel on the floor,

    • adequate parking for the instructor(s),

    • clear directions to the training location,

    • access to the training area 30 min before and after the class,

    • access to water, washrooms, and a garbage can,

    • wheelchair access or assistance in carrying in equipment if wheelchair access is unavailable,

    • minimum 6 students (or minimum payment received).

  • Preferred:

    • schedule a minimum of 14 days in advance,

    • adequate parking for the participants, free parking,

    • access to the training area 60 min before and after the class,

    • electrical outlet, internet access, food or snacks for participants,

    • cleaning supplies if the instructor is required to tidy the area after class,

    • few or no outside distractions, e.g., minimal traffic walking by the training area (some exceptions apply),

  • Payment:

    • Minimum payment is due at registration, full payment is due 24 hours prior to the start of class.

    • Students who haven't registered, may be able to register up to 10 min prior to class, depending on availability.

    • If a client cancels no less than 48 hours prior to class, full refunds are provided. We will make every effort to provide a full refund if notified within the 48 hours, but may be unable to, due to costs we incur. For classes with more than 36 students, a minimum of 72 hours notice is required.

What if my space doesn't meet the requirements?

  • We recommend renting a space or partnering with another organization whose space meets the requirements.

  • Remember, more students may also qualify you for a lower price.

  • In Drumheller, the BCF large multipurpose room is ~$200/day.

  • In Calgary, rental spaces are $15-35/hr at https://www.calgary.ca/bookings/meeting-rooms.html.

  • Other places that rent space include businesses, churches, community centres, leisure centres, gyms, and schools.

Can I reschedule if the weather is bad?

  • If the 7-day forecast calls for snow or heavy rain, we'll provide the option of rescheduling.

  • If https://511.alberta.ca/#route reports dangerous road conditions, we will reschedule as the safety of our instructors is top priority. Clients may also reschedule with less than 48 hours without penalty.

What happens if a student shows up late or doesn't show up at all?

  • Late: If a student shows up late at the start of class, or after returning from a break, they may not meet the provincial requirements for certification. Opportunities for students to make up the missed material may be provided upon the discretion and availability of the instructor. If more than 5 min of extra instruction is required due to tardiness, an additional charge of $30 may apply and will need to either be preapproved by the client or paid by the student.

  • No Show: If a student doesn't show and their spot isn't filled prior to class, a refund may be provided IF the minimum of 6 students still applies, AND the missed person doesn't disqualify the client from their rate band price.

What happens if the instructor shows up late or doesn't show up at all?

  • Our trainers confirm their attendance ~1hr prior to the class and arrive 20 min early to set up. Should an instructor not appear, please notify 101 First Aid immediately so we may send an alternate.

Do you only work with businesses or may I register as an individual?

  • We work with any group of 6 or more; this includes businesses, charities, churches, friends, networking groups, schools, etc. If you'd like to take advantage of our on-site training and have fewer than 6 people, we recommend partnering with another business or inviting family and friends.

I found a course cheaper than yours. Will you price match?

  • No. We won't always be the cheapest price, but I can pretty much guarantee we won't be the most expensive either. We seek to build good relationships with other providers, not undercut them. We review our prices frequently to ensure they're competitive, fair, and keep up with inflation.

  • Remember, very few providers train on site, and those who do, often charge extra on top of their advertised prices. Their specialty is to train at their location. Our specialty is to train at your location.

Scheduling FAQs

  • Hours of Operation: Our course schedule is 8am to 8pm, Monday to Saturday. An 8-hour class will need to fall within this time block. If you require training outside of these hours, or split training, we may be able to accommodate.

  • Split Training: Clients who require two 4-hr classes instead of one 8-hr class, will be charged a travel fee to cover the cost of our instructor(s) additional trips. Split training only applies to our 1-day courses.

  • 2-Day: Intermediate First Aid C days do not need to be consecutive, but must fall within 7 days of each other.
